The Caftan Series

2017

This series of plates featuring ornate caftans with gold ornamentation is inspired by Ilel’s travels to Hong Kong where she first observed Japanese kimono designs on porcelain vases. Another important piece of inspiration for this series was The Afghan Woven Textiles exhibition that took place in Istanbul.

Each plate has been hand decorated with on-glaze techniques, using pure mineral pigments and 18-carat matte gold on high quality porcelain. Each plate has been put through several processes and has been fired several times. The woven effect of the painted caftans captures oriental sentiment and luxury.

Exhibited on “Collective Atelier Exhibition”, Elma Atelier in Istanbul.

Currently became a part of Emaar The Address Hotel permanent collection.
